Nantes have managed to get themselves a much-needed win last weekend ahead of facing a Stade Brest side who are preparing for their biggest game of the season in the next midweek.

Nantes Preview: Steadying themselves

After requiring three permanent managers to avoid relegation last season, Antoine Kombouare has remained in charge of the Canaries despite the fact they have managed just two victories in Ligue 1 since August – although one of those came last weekend.

The home team, who had shared four successive draws, managed to defeat Stade de Reims by two goals to one at Stade Auguste-Delaune II last weekend thanks to goals from Matthis Abline and Mostafa Mohamed in either half.

Brest Preview: Focus on Europe

Stade Brest, under the management of former Sunderland player Eric Roy, have been the story of the season in the UEFA Champions League and they are preparing for their knockout playoff round tie against Paris Saint-Germain in the coming midweek.

They had enjoyed three successive victories in Ligue 1 before the visitors suffered a 5-2 loss at home to the aforementioned PSG last weekend. They bounced back from that by defeating Troyes by two goals to one in the Coupe de France in midweek.

Nantes Team News: Pallois suspension

Despite winning last weekend, defender Nicolas Pallois picked up a fifth yellow card of the season and is missing through suspension for this week’s visit of Brest. They also have some key injury doubts such as Alban Lafont, Douglas Augusto and Tino Kadewere.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Lopes; Coco, Sow, Castelletto, Cozza; Pedro Chirivella, Gbamin; Abline, Lepenant, Simon; Mostafa Mohamed

Unavailable: Pallois (Suspended), Mahamoud (Injured)

Questionable: Lafont (Injured), Zeze (Injured), Centonze (Injured), Douglas Augusto (Injured), Kadewere (Injured)

Brest Team News: Still no Locko

Brest have had issues at left-back this season but Massadio Haidara has returned to the first-team for this weekend. They do remain without reported Tottenham Hotspur target Bradley Locko, whilst former Aston Villa defender Jordan Amavi remains an injury doubt.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Bizot; Lala, Chardonnet, Ndiaye, Zogbe; Camara, Lees-Melou; Del Castillo, Faivre, Sima; Ajorque

Unavailable: Locko (Injured)

Questionable: Amavi (Injured), Martin (Injured)

Nantes vs Brest Prediction

As mentioned, Nantes enjoyed a much-needed victory last weekend and that means they begin the 21st match day of the 2024/25 Ligue 1 campaign sitting just three points outside of third-from-bottom and the relegation playoff place. They now face a Stade Brest side that have been much-improved in the last couple of months but will naturally, and fairly, be distracted by their upcoming clash with PSG. Given that, and the fact this is being played at Stade de la Beaujoire, it could well be a good value bet to side with Nantes for this one.
