Moyuka Uchijima recovered from losing the first set to beat Nuria Brancaccio 3-6 6-2 6-1. The Japanese third seed still gave up over 12 opportunities on her serve and must improve if she wants to make a deep run at this event. Nevertheless, she was still aggressive in the way she dictated rallies from the back of the court, helping herself to 35 winners. 

Uchijima now faces Lois Boisson. Boisson blitzed past Harriet Dart 6-0 6-3 to make it through to the next round. She did not lose serve throughout the entirety of the match. This will be a boost for the French woman after such a frustrating season which has taken her out of the top 200 in the world rankings.
