MONTPELLIER PREVIEW: STRUGGLING MONTPELLIER

It was always expected that Montpellier Herault would struggle this season and the 2012 French champions begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting rock-bottom in Ligue 1 having already made a managerial change.

Boyhood Montpellier fan and former Ivory Coast boss Jean-Louis Gasset replaced Michel Der Zakarian a couple of weeks ago but they come into this one on the back of a slender 1-0 loss to fellow strugglers Le Havre at Stade Oceane last weekend.

BREST PREVIEW: BRILLIANT BREST

Former Sunderland player Eric Roy led one of the smallest budgets in Ligue 1, Stade Brest, to a third place finish and UEFA Champions League qualification last season. They have been inconsistent in the league but mesmeric on the continent.

Their fairytale on the continent continued in midweek as they defeated Sparta Prague by a goal to nil in the Czech capital. As mentioned, they have been inconsistent domestically with four victories, a draw and five defeats in their opening ten matches of the 2024/25 campaign.

MONTPELLIER TEAM NEWS: SEVERAL ABSENTEES

PREDICTED XI (3-4-3): Lecomte; Sacko, Maksimovic, Sagnan; Tchato, Ferri, Nzingoula, Sylla; Nordin, Adams, Khazri

BREST TEAM NEWS: SIMA INJURY

Brest have been dealing with injuries throughout the campaign and now Brighton and Hove Albion loanee Abdallah Sima is missing with a hamstring injury.

UNAVAILABLE: Zogbe (Injured), Sima (Injured)

MONTPELLIER VS BREST PREDICTION

Montpellier are desperate at the moment. They lost last weekend to a poor Le Havre side but such has the nature of their start to this season, a low-scoring affair in which they conceded once is actually progress. They face a Brest side that will be buoyant after their midweek travails but potentially fatigued. Brest are favourites for this one against rock-bottom opposition but it is unlikely to be an overly enjoyable match for the neutral.
