Monaco Preview: Entertaining Monaco
Former Borussia Monchengladbach manager Adi Hutter has produced an entertaining and intense Monaco side in terms of their style of football. They also appear to have come through the worst of what was quite a major and frustrating mid-season slump.
The Monegasque come into this one on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Stade Brest at Stade Francis-Le Ble in their most recent outing last weekend, though, due to a 94th minute winning goal scored by Mahdi Camara in that game.
Marseille Preview: Entertaining Marseille
Roberto De Zerbi and Olympique de Marseille went together perfectly with their chaotic energy perfectly matched. De Zerbi, after some scintillating performances this season amidst some deep lows, has not apparently given up on coaching L’OM.
With his desire to take the AC Milan job in the summer and reports suggesting he was asked to stop showing up to training, Marseille then put in a 3-2 winning performance against Toulouse at the Velodrome and Adrien Rabiot then publicly backed the former Brighton boss.
Monaco Team News: Mawissa suspended
Monaco defender Christian Mawissa is missing through suspension for this weekend with the hosts also dealing with a few injury doubts such as Jordan Teze, Kassoum Ouattara and Soungoutou Magassa.
Predicted XI (4-4-2): Kohn; Singo, Kehrer, Salisu, Caio Henrique; Akliouche, Zakaria, Camara, Minamino; Biereth, Embolo
Unavailable: Mawissa (Suspended)
Questionable: Teze (Injured), Ouattara (Injured), Magassa (Injured)
Marseille Team News: Several issues
Winter transfer window signing Luiz Felipe, who recently joined from Al Ittihad, but they also have some confirmed definite absentees such as Ruben Blanco and defensive duo Leonardo Balerdi and Chancel Mbemba.
Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Rulli; Michael Amir Murillo, Cornelius, Kondogbia; Luiz Henrique, Bennacer, Rongier, Merlin; Greenwood, Rabiot; Maupay
Unavailable: Ruben Blanco (Injured), Balerdi (Injured), Mbemba (Injured)
Questionable: Luiz Felipe (Injured), Gouiri (Injured)
Monaco vs Marseille Prediction
Monaco will be expected to once again get on the front foot here with Hutter now able to switch to his more German-Austrian style of something akin to a 4-2-2-2 ‘gegenpress’. Marseille will head to the principality with a more chaotic and possession-based style of football that lacks a little more precision and control. Monaco will press high but Marseille will believe they can exploit them on the counter-attack with both teams scoring looking a good bet for this one.
