YAZMIN JAUREGUI: BIG PUNCHING MEXICAN LOOKS TO RISE UP THE RANKINGS
There is another Mexican on the card as Yazmin Jauregui has been given the chance to fight on the historic Mexican Independence Day card at The Sphere. The 25-year-old has enjoyed a successful rise to the UFC and she brings an impressive 11-1 record into this match. After winning her first two fights in the UFC, Jauregui suffered a shock 20-second TKO loss to Denise Gomes. She bounced back last time out to win a decision over Sam Hughes in February and she will be confident coming into this one. The defeat she suffered was somewhat freak getting caught cold early but she recovered well in her last fight and it may ultimately serve her well to learn from.
KETLEN SOUZA: BRAZILIAN AIMS FOR SUCCESSIVE UFC WINS
Ketlen Souza is a 29-year-old Brazilian who like Jauregui, possesses plenty of punching power. She has a 14-4 record and after losing her debut fight in the UFC via submission to Karine Silva, she responded with a decision win last time out against Marnic Mann. Eight of her 14 wins have come via knockout, but it is over three years since her last stoppage win with her last four all coming on the judges’ scorecards.
YAZMIN JAUREGUI VS KETLEN SOUZA PREDICTION
Both of these fighters possess excellent knockout power which is pretty rare for the strawweight division and it is Jauregui especially who carries a heavy punch. That has converted to the UFC and even when the level of opponent has risen, she has continued to seek stoppages.
After her surprising knockout loss to Denise Gomes, Yazmin Jauregui was a little more circumspect last time out as she won via decision. She may be a little wary once again especially early against Souza but she will be confident. Jauregui is well-rounded and has good stamina.
We favour her to get the win in this bout. There is a fair chance of a stoppage and all four of Souza’s losses have been stoppages (two knockouts and two submissions). Jauregui to win via stoppage offers good value and with this being a big day for the Mexicans, we can see her going all out for the stoppage.
