WELLINGTON TURMAN VS JARED GOODEN LOWDOWN
Wellington Turman (18-7) continues his quest at welterweight. He went 3-4 at middleweight in the UFC with his best performance being that slick armbar over fellow jiu-jitsu ace Misha Cirkunov (2022). He went on to get out muscled in a unanimous decision by Andre Petroski (2022). That forced the move down and he did not receive a warm welcome to 170 lbs by Randy Brown who inflicted another unanimous decision loss.
Brown sent Jared Gooden (22-9) out of the UFC with another unanimous decision back in 2021. That made it 1-3 in the big time, but he was given another chance earlier this year by stepping up on short notice to take on Carlston Harris at UFC Fight Night 221. He ended up losing the seventh unanimous decision of his career and has been gifted another opportunity in Austin.
WELLINGTON TURMAN VS JARED GOODEN PREDICTION
Gooden has not impressed in the UFC and he is inevitably the underdog. However, considering Turman has been flatlined twice, is cutting more weight and Gooden hits like a truck, he holds all the value.
Turman is the better fighter and his grappling is on another level. His problem is that he is too inconsistent. That said, we expect him to be slicker on the feet with better hand speed and movement.
He will also own any scramble and will be able to control the fight should he get Gooden on his back. We expect him win a decision or late submission, but a Gooden knockout is worth a small punt.
Prediction: Turman via Decision
Value bet: Gooden via KO/TKO
