Tatsuro Taira (14-0) is being brought up the right way as he keeps extending his unbeaten record. He has won his first four UFC fights with the UFC holding off from lining up any ranked flyweights. He outpointed Carlos Candelario (2022) on debut and has gone on to submit CJ Vergara (2022), Jesus Santos Aguilar (2023) and Edgar Chairez (2023).
Carlos Hernandez (9-2) extended his win streak to eight on his UFC debut by earning a split decision over Victor Altamirano (2022). Allan Nascimento (2023) then snapped the streak with a first-round submission, but he got back in the win column by outpointing Denys Bondar (2023) at UFC on ESPN 47.

Like all of Taira’s UFC fights, he is a hefty favourite. He is electric and well rounded with dynamic striking who will look to get the fight to the floor to show off his strengths.
Hernandez has excellent jiu-jitsu which should make this interesting. However, Taira’s wrestling is a lot better which should enable him to assume a lot of control time as he pours the ground-and-pound while threatening the submission.
While they are on the feet, we expect a rapid and competitive battle. The sooner Taira decides to wrestle, the quicker the fight will swing in his favour. Hernandez holds all of the value, but we expect Taira to nullify his weapons and grind out a decision.
