After a baptism of fire, Tabatha Ricci (9-1) has shown what she is capable of. She stepped up on short notice to fight future flyweight title challenger Manon Fiorot (2021). She inevitably got TKO’d but has gone on to earn unanimous decisions over Maria Oliveira (2021), Polyana Viana (2022) and most recently Gillian Robertson (2023) after a submission over Jessica Penne (2023).
Lupita Godinez (11-3) has become one of the most active female fighters on the roster. She has fought six times in the last two years. She earnt unanimous decisions over Loma Lookboonmee (2021) and Ariane Carnelossi (2022) before dropping one to Angela Hill (2022). However, she has picked up some steam by outpointing Cynthia Calvillo, Emily Ducote and Elise Reed this year to go 6-3 in the UFC.

Both fighters are very skilled and strong grapplers. Ricci is a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and judo whereas Godinez hails from a wrestling background so it would a fascinating to see them tangle.
There is a strong chance that these skills cancel each other out forcing them to strike. That will suit Godinez who is a better striker. If they do grapple, Godinez’s wrestling can counter Ricci’s skills, but she will be playing with fire.
We can see them both exchanging takedowns and as strong a wrestler as Godinez is, she will be better off keeping this on the feet. The longer they stand, the more chance Godinez has, so this will depend on the Mexican’s game plan.
