ARGENTINA FORM: REVENGE ON THE MIND

Argentina let slip a 16-7 lead against Australia in La Plata last week, and ultimately ended up losing the contest by a single point. Their collapse can partly be explained by the loss of Juan Martin Gonzalez, who had to leave the field due to a head injury, after which the Wallabies took control.

The Pumas are, however, still above their opponents in the Rugby Championship table, and with second-placed New Zealand taking on runaway leaders South Africa the same day, they will see this as an excellent opportunity to take second spot.

AUSTRALIA FORM: MORALE-BOOSTING VICTORY

After back-to-back defeats at the hands of South Africa, the Wallabies’ come-from-behind victory over Argentina last weekend was much-needed, although there are undoubtedly plenty of improvements still to be made all the way through the pack.

In terms of historic milestones, James Slipper can draw level with George Gregan’s record of 139 Test appearances for Australia, should he take to the field.

ARGENTINA VS AUSTRALIA PREDICTION

Argentina began the 2024 Rugby Championship in scintillating fashion by defeating reigning champions New Zealand 38-30 in an enthralling contest, but since then they have lost back-to-back games. Last weekend’s one-point defeat to Australia was a particularly painful one though, and they will be determined to bounce back and win this reverse fixture.

What is clear is that there is not a great deal to separate the teams right now, so backing a repeat of last week’s outcome, with Australia winning by a small margin, looks tempting

ARGENTINA VS AUSTRALIA TIP: AUSTRALIA TO WIN BY A MARGIN OF 1-6 POINTS
