ROMAN DOLIDZE: GEORGIAN LOOKING TO BUILD ON WIN AT UFC 303
The incredibly tough Roman Dolidze (13-3) will be looking to back up his unanimous decision win over Anthony Smith at UFC 303 last time out with another win here. The 36-year-old had lost back-to-back fights prior to that against Marvin Vettori and Nassourdine Imavov – both via decision – but he got back to winning ways against Smith and he will be keen to control this fight against Holland and get a win.
KEVIN HOLLAND: TRAILBLAZER COMING OFF PERFORMANCE OF THE NIGHT WIN
Kevin Holland (26-11 with one no contest) was initially slated to face Chris Curtis but that fight fell through due to injury so he now meets Roman Dolidze. The Trailblazer is coming off a submission win over Michał Oleksiejczuk at UFC 302 at the start of June which halted a two-fight skid. After working his way up to the top end of the rankings, Holland has suffered four losses in his last seven bouts but the quality of some of his opponents like Khamzat Chimaev and Stephen Thompson only highlights the level he has been fighting at.
ROMAN DOLIDZE VS KEVIN HOLLAND PREDICTION
Kevin Holland is the slight favourite coming into this fight but this could very well be a bad match-up for him stylistically. Dolidze is nowhere near Holland when it comes to entertainment but the Georgian is a elite grappler and that could be problematic for Holland.
Holland will be eager to keep this fight standing but there will be no hiding Dolidze’s approach here. He will look for takedowns right from the start and it will be interesting to see whether Holland can hold him off.
Dolidze has an excellent chin while possesses plenty of power himself. Holland’s route to victory will either be knockout or whether he can somehow outwork Dolidze and we struggle to see the latter.
Our pick here is on the Georgian to grind out the win over three rounds and gain enough Octagon control to win the fight on the scorecards. It may not be the entertaining fight Holland and the crowd will want, but Dolidze will do what he has to do to get the win.
PREDICTION: ROMAN DOLIDZE TO WIN VIA DECISION
