ROB FONT VS DEIVESON FIGUEIREDO LOWDOWN
Rob Font (20-7) continues to get fed killers and is 1-3 in his last four. After collecting the scalps of Ricky Simon (2019), Marlon Moraes (2020) and Cody Garbrandt (2021) he ran into Jose Aldo (2021) and Marlon Vera (2022) losing unanimous decisions. He then took on the prospect Adrian Yanez (2023) and pulled off the upset by knocking him out in the first round. However, he then stepped up on short notice to fight Cory Sandhagen back in August inevitably losing a unanimous decision.
Deiveson Figueiredo (21-3-1) takes a break from Brandon Moreno and tries his hand up at bantamweight. He is the only opponent he has fought in three years, and they were all title fights. The first was in 2020 when they fought to a draw retaining his title. He got submitted in 2021, snatched the belt back with a unanimous decision in 2022 and then could not make the fourth round back in January after his eye swelled shut.
ROB FONT VS DEIVESON FIGUEIREDO PREDICTION
This is a great match-up to mark Figueiredo’s entrance to the division and we could learn everything we need to know about his bantamweight title aspirations. He cut a tremendous amount of weight and was arguably the most powerful flyweight, so it will be very interesting to see how he sizes up.
He will not have to worry about his strength in the grappling department but how well he can absorb the power of strikes. Font has one of the best jabs in the division and he will not have experienced that power for a while.
Font will get behind that job and look to break Figueiredo down with his boxing. The Brazilian will relish the stand-up battle and will begin by chopping Font’s leg down. Font has good defence, so Figueiredo will have to be patient with his power shots.
Font has the edge when it comes to cardio, so if this goes into the second round, Font will finish stronger. That said, with 10 pounds less to cut, Figueiredo will be even more explosive and powerful which Font cannot afford to underestimate.
They both have superb hand speed and Figueiredo has some exceptional grappling in the locker should ne need it. He holds the value as the underdog, but we are leaning towards Font especially if this remains on the feet for three rounds.
Prediction: Font via Decision
Value bet: Figueiredo to win
