YAZMIN JAUREGUI VS SAM HUGHES LOWDOWN
Yazmin Jauregui (10-1) is coming off the first loss of her career. After winning the Combate Global Last Latina Standing Tournament, she made her debut against Iasmin Lucindo (2022) winning a unanimous decision. She returned four months later to fight Istela Nunes (2022) and walked away with a TKO although it unfortunately came about after Nunes fell on her arm dislocating her elbow. Jauregui then appeared on the UFC 290 card and was finished in 20 seconds by Denise Gomes.
Sam Hughes (8-5) is just about staying afloat in the strawweight waters going 3-1 in her last four. She also boats a win over Nunes (2022) with a majority decision. She went on to TKO Elise Reed (2022) but then got outpointed by Piera Rodriguez (2022). However, she is coming off a solid win and unanimous decision over Jaqueline Amorim (2023) at UFC 287 to boast her UFC record to 3-4.
YAZMIN JAUREGUI VS SAM HUGHES PREDICTION
This is a great opportunity for Jauregui to bounce back in front of her home fans. She is a better striker than Hughes and will try and get the job done on the feet.
It will be interesting to see if there is any hesitancy after Gomes steamrolled her. If there is, Hughes will capitalize forcing the pressure and mixing in her wrestling. Jauregui can also grapple, but as Hughes is not much of a threat on the feet, we expect the Mexican to stick to her striking.
Jauregui is the heavy favourite, and we are backing her to overwhelm Hughes with her power and array of weapons on the feet. However, if this goes past the first round, Hughes has the cardio to change the fight around and cause the upset.
