TATIANA SUAREZ VS MONTANA DE LA ROSA LOWDOWN
Tatiana Suarez (8-0) is finally back after recovering from significant neck and knee injuries. It seemed a shot at the strawweight title was inevitable after carving through her five UFC opponents. They included a submission over Alexa Grasso (2018), a TKO over the two-time champion Carla Esparza (2018) and a unanimous decision over Nina Nunes (2019) which was her last appearance.
She returns at flyweight and is welcomed by Montana De La Rosa (12-7-1). She has fought six times since Suarez’s last fight and it has been a mixed bag going 2-3-1. She is coming off a draw with Mayra Bueno Silva (2021), a TKO win over Ariane Lipski (2021) and a unanimous decision loss to Maycee Barber (2022) to take her overall UFC record to 5-3-1.

Although Suarez is likely to go back down to 115 lbs, if she returns anywhere near her best, she will be in line for a title shot, whether that is at flyweight or strawweight.
There are a lot of questions after the injuries and time off, but this is a decent match-up for her return. De La Rosa’s strengths also lie in her wrestling and as good of a grappler she is, Suarez has the skill to throw her around.
As we saw in the Nunes fight, Suarez is vulnerable against good strikers with cardio. De La Rosa has a gas tank on her and is a better striker, but it is not at a level to offer any knockout threat.
We are not sure what level Suarez is at, but we are confident enough to expect her to control De La Rosa for three rounds with her wrestling.
