SHANE YOUNG VS GABRIEL MIRANDA LOWDOWN
Although Shane Young (13-7) has been in the UFC for nearly six years, he makes the short flight over to Australia for just his seventh appearance. He fought the current featherweight champ Alexander Volkanovski (2017) on debut inevitably losing via unanimous decision, and he responded with a couple wins. However, he has not won since 2019 and is coming off a brutal head kick knockout courtesy of Ludovit Klein (2020) and two unanimous decision losses to Omar Morales (2021) and Blake Bilder (2023).
Now, he takes on Gabriel Miranda (16-6) who we have not seen in over a year. That was his UFC debut where he flew over to Paris as a replacement to take on Benoit Saint Denis (2022). It was a baptism of fire getting TKO’d in the second round which snapped a streak of three submissions on the bounce. Now, he flies across the other side of the globe in search of his first UFC dub.
SHANE YOUNG VS GABRIEL MIRANDA PREDICTION
Young has not looked great for a few years, but if this stays on the feet, he will look at home and will be able to open Miranda up with his jab and begin to unleash combinations.
Miranda’s striking is not on the same level as the Kiwi, but he throws bombs and one can easily land. If he can get the fight to ground however, it will be a different fight where the Brazilian will back himself to find a submission.
So, this all depends on the takedown defence of Young which is 65% in the UFC. We give Miranda a good chance as the underdog, but he is completely unproven as this level, and we are backing Young to keep the fight on the feet long enough to land enough damage to earn a decision at least.
Prediction: Young via Decision
Value bet: Miranda via Submission
