PHIL HAWES VS ROMAN DOLIDZE LOWDOWN

Phil Hawes (12-3) rampaged his way into the UFC with three finishes for Brave CF and kept up that momentum with a TKO over Khadzhimurat Bestaev (2020) on the Contender Series and that ruthless knockout over Jacob Malkoun (2020) on debut. He went on to extend his win streak to seven with decisions over Nassourdine Imavov (2021) which will continue to age well and Kyle Daukaus (2021). However, Chris Curtis (2021) abruptly snapped the streak with a first-round knockout. Seven months later he returned to fight Deron Winn and bounced back with a ‘Performance of the Night’ and TKO.

Roman Dolidze (10-1) has also recently bounced back from a rare loss. He met Trevin Giles for his third UFC outing protecting an unbeaten record that included a TKO over Khadis Ibragimov (2020) and John Allan (2020). He fell short in a unanimous decision but has replied with one of his own over Laureano Staropoli (2021) and a vintage knockout over Daukaus giving him a taste of his Georgian knee.

PHIL HAWES VS ROMAN DOLIDZE PREDICTION

On paper, Hawes has all the tools to get through someone of the calibre of Dolidze. He is a juggernaut with the wrestling to subdue the elite submission skills and knockout power to put him away on the feet.

However, his cardio and chin is an issue. He has been finished in all three of his losses getting knocked out twice and submitted. Dolidze is also an absolute beast with suspect cardio so we may be in for a wild couple rounds and a fatigued third where anything can happen.

A knockout either way is likely and a Dolidze submission is possible. We feel Hawes’ wrestling will be able to counter Dolidze’s clinches and throws. So, we expect the majority of the fight to consist of Hawes obtaining control time in between explosive exchanges on the feet.

We can see a variety of outcomes here and leaning towards a Hawes decision with his wrestling making the difference but considering his chin, Dolidze’s power and the odds, a knockout for the Georgian is your best bet.
