NEIL MAGNY VS PHILIP ROWE LOWDOWN
Unfortunately for Neil Magny (27-10), his ceiling is there and plain to see. He has hovered around the top of the talent-rich welterweight division for nearly a decade, but he just can’t get passed the elite grapplers. He is 3-3 in his last six getting outpointed by Michael Chiesa (2021) and submitted by Shavkat Rakhmonov (2022) and Gilbert Burns (2023). In between those losses he boasts wins over the likes of Geoff Neal (2021), Max Griffin (2022) and Daniel Rodriguez (2022) so is clearly still a threat.
Philip Rowe (10-3) earns the biggest date of his career so far after three consecutive knockouts. He lost a unanimous decision to Gabe Green (2021) on his UFC debut but went on to pile the bodies of Orion Cosce (2021), Jason Witt (2022) and Niko Price (2022).
NEIL MAGNY VS PHILIP ROWE PREDICTION
Magny takes a step down in competition, but interestingly he will up against someone with the same height and reach. Rowe is also a tall lanky welterweight with an 80-inch reach.
When opponents do not have a grappling advantage, Magny excels in shutting them down with his clinch and chaining takedowns together with his relentless cardio. His output does not slow down so Rowe will have to be aggressive.
He is an excellent striker and uses his range very well. The longer this stays on the feet, the better chance Rowe has. He is also very skilled on the ground however, we do not feel his takedown defence is good enough to keep Magny off him.
There is a lot of value on Rowe as the underdog with the speed and power advantage on the feet. However, the fact that he has missed weight in two of his last three and has suspect takedown defence swing this in the veteran’s favour.
Prediction: Magny via Decision
Value Bet: Rowe via finish
