NASRAT HAQPARAST VS JARED GORDON LOWDOWN
Nasrat Haqparast (16-5) has enjoyed some kinder matchups after getting outclassed in unanimous decisions to Dan Hooker (2021) and Bobby Green (2022). He has bounced back with unanimous decisions of his own over John Makdessi (2022) and Landon Quinones (2023). He then reeled off a ‘Performance of the Night’ by knocking out Jamie Mullarkey (2023) at UFC Fight Night 233 to bump his UFC record up to 8-4.
Jared Gordon (20-6(1)) has been a mixed bag recently. In 2022, he got submitted by Grant Dawson, won a decision against Leonardo Santos and then got robbed in a unanimous decision loss to Paddy Pimblett. He then got knocked out by Green (2023) thanks to a clash of heads but is coming off a brilliant TKO over Mark Madsen (2023) taking his UFC tally to 8-5(1).
NASRAT HAQPARAST VS JARED GORDON PREDICTION
Neither fighter has been a picture of consistency in the octagon, but when they are on, they are incredibly hard to beat. Haqparast is the better striker and Gordon is the better grappler, but we expect the majority of this to play out on the feet.
Although Mullarkey is Haqparast’s only knockout in his last eight fights, he packs a lot of power in his hands with a snapping jab and powerful left hand from his southpaw stance. He will be eyeing the four knockout losses on Gordon’s record.
If Gordon makes this dirty, steps into the pocket and mixes in the takedowns, he can wear Haqparast down. However, the Moroccan’s takedown defence continues to improve and the longer this stays on the feet, the more chance he has in finding a knockout.
Gordon makes sense as the underdog and we can see him grinding out a close decision, but if he cannot pin Haqparast down, he will eat a lot of volume.
Prediction: Haqparast via Decision
Value Bet: Gordon via Decision
