MONTSERRAT RUIZ VS JAQUELINE AMORIM LOWDOWN
Montserrat Ruiz (10-2) is 2-2 in her last four but, Danielle Taylor was her first loss back in 2018 for Invicta and in her last fight she took on the title contender Amanda Lemos (2021). She got TKO’d but Lemos is a level above most flyweights on the roster. Sandwiching those losses are dominant wins over Janaisa Morandin (2020) who she submitted with a scarf hold keylock and Cheyanne Vlismas (2021) who she outpointed on her UFC debut.
Jaqueline Amorim (6-1) made her UFC debut back in April, but it did not go to plan. She was sitting on six finishes (one knockout and five submissions) and was the heavy favourite. However, Sam Hughes (2023) gave her a slap of reality and grinded out a unanimous decision.
MONTSERRAT RUIZ VS JAQUELINE AMORIM PREDICTION
We have a good contest between two aggressive grapplers here. Ruiz is a former national wrestler and Amorim has very good jiu-jitsu and can also wrestle.
Both of them did not give a good account of themselves in their last fights, but they have the talent. Amorim is the better striker and packs a lot of power in her hands. She is dangerous everywhere, but her cardio is suspect at best.
The worry for Ruiz on the other hand is that she has not fought in over two years and is very hittable. We can see her getting clipped early and either getting TKO’d or submitted.
However, if she can get out of the first round and wear Amorim down with her wrestling, she can cruise the second half of the fight.
Amorim is the favourite and we understand why considering her power along with Ruiz’s defence and inactivity. However, we are backing the Mexican to grind the Brazilian down to earn a decision.
Prediction: Ruiz via Decision
Value bet: Ruiz to win
