MIRANDA MAVERICK VS DIONE BARBOSA LOWDOWN
Miranda Maverick (13-5) is grateful to remain on the card after her original opponent Tracy Cortez got pulled to headline UFC on ESPN 59 last week against Rose Namajunas. She deserved a step-up in competition after submitting Priscila Cachoeira (2023) and outpointing Andrea Lee (2024) boosting her UFC record up to 6-3.
Dione Barbosa (7-2) is also on a roll after winning her UFC debut this year. She earnt her opportunity by submitting Rainn Guerrero (2023) on the Contender Series and earnt a unanimous decision over Ernesta Kareckaite at UFC 301 extending her win streak to four.
MIRANDA MAVERICK VS DIONE BARBOSA PREDICTION
Despite stepping up on relative short notice, Barbosa is a dangerous matchup. She does not have the wrestling of Cortez to worry about, but she has very slick jiu-jitsu. She also has decent judo so will welcome the grappling exchanges hoping to toss Maverick on her back and pounce on a submission.
Maverick is understandably the favourite with a more well-rounded skill set and full training camp behind her. We feel her speed on the feet and wrestling will be enough to convince the judges. We can see Maverick calling upon her experience to outland Barbosa and control her with her wrestling to shut her down.
That said, we expect this to be a very competitive scrap and considering the odds, Barbosa is the value pick.
