MAX HOLLOWAY VS THE KOREAN ZOMBIE LOWDOWN
Max Holloway (24-7) trucks on at 145 lbs and makes his 28th walk to the octagon. His only roadblock in the division has been Alexander Volkanovski (2019, 2020, 2022) who now boasts three wins over the Hawaiian killing any more chances of a title shot while he is on the throne. After the first two narrow decision losses, he outclassed Calvin Kattar (2021) and Yair Rodriguez (2021) in unanimous decisions. He then lost his third meeting with the Aussie in a more convincing loss and is coming off another schooling of a contender in Arnold Allen back in April.
The Korean Zombie, Chan Sung Jung (17-7) has also felt the wrath of the Aussie. He earnt a title shot after outpointing Dan Ige (2021) and was humbled by a fourth-round TKO. He is 4-4 in his last eight getting in one fight a year, but that does not matter to the fans as he has always been one of the most exciting fighters on the roster and he is expected to throw down with the former king of the division.
MAX HOLLOWAY VS THE KOREAN ZOMBIE PREDICTION
Holloway has become one of the most high-level gatekeepers you will see and is effectively helping Volkanovski to clear out the division. That said, nobody cares about the implications here as this will be sheer entertainment.
The Korean Zombie is four inches shorter but will boast a three-inch reach advantage over Holloway. He also holds the grappling advantage, but this will be a battle between Holloway’s volume and Jung’s power.
It will be interesting to see whether the technical and calculated Jung turns up of the brawling Zombie. We know exactly what to expect from Holloway on the other hand who will begin at a steady pace offloading his masterful boxing and increasing the tempo and volume as the rounds go on.
The recent Zombie also starts more carefully waiting for his opening. However, he will run the risk of Holloway dictating the pace which only has one outcome. This is what we expect to happen and after a couple rounds Zombie will be chasing the fight.
Ignoring the Volkanovski fights, Holloway is showing little signs of slowing down whereas Jung is. His power and jiu-jitsu can always find a finish, but Holloway’s chin and takedown defence is too strong.
