MAX GRIFFIN VS TIM MEANS LOWDOWN
Max Griffin (18-9) appears for the second time this year hoping to bounce back from getting his three-fight win streak snapped by Neil Magny back in March. He was in the form of his life stringing some impressive wins together including knockouts over Ramiz Brahimaj (2020), Kenan Song (2021) and a unanimous decision over Carlos Condit (2021). He then, failed the tougher test but took the veteran to a split decision which is no mean feat.
Tim Means (32-13-1(1)) is also coming off a tough loss after three impressive wins. He collected three unanimous decisions all against stellar competition – Laureano Staropoli (2020), Mike Perry (2020) and Nicolas Dalby (2021). He was also rewarded with a tougher test and could not make it out of the second round getting caught in Kevin Holland’s D’Arce back in June.
MAX GRIFFIN VS TIM MEANS PREDICTION
These guys match up very evenly. They are both excellent boxers and solid grapplers. Griffin boasts more power and speed but Means has the edge when it comes to technique. He is is three inches taller, but Griffin has an inch extra in reach, so it is going to be fascinating to see how they use their assets on the feet.
We expect a mixture of striking and grappling here. Means’ bread and butter is his boxing, but he times his takedowns well. That said, we expect Griffin to the get the better of the wrestling exchanges which will be key to swaying the judges.
This is destined to be a close and competitive battle of boxing and wrestling. We are leaning towards Griffin and would not be surprised to see a split decision, so the underdog is the smart play.
