LUANA PINHEIRO VS ANGELA HILL LOWDOWN
Luana Pinheiro (11-2) has licked her wounds and is ready to respond after suffering the first knockout loss of her career. She was riding an impressive nine-fight win streak after outpointing Sam Hughes (2021) and Michelle Waterson-Gomez (2023). Amanda Ribas (2023) then stopped her in her tracks with a beautiful spinning wheel kick and finishing her in the third round to hit her UFC record down to 3-1.
Angela Hill (16-13) appears for the first time this year to make her 22nd UFC appearance. She has never quite managed to break the upper echelon, but she has kept afloat as the gatekeeper of the division. She closed the gate on Loopy Godinez (2022) and Emily Ducote (2023) before Mackenzie Dern (2023) forced through. She is now coming off another unanimous decision win shutting out Denise Gomes (2023) to boost her UFC record to 10-11.
LUANA PINHEIRO VS ANGELA HILL PREDICTION
Hill is more consistent than her record suggests. She is a brilliant technical striker and utilizes all eight limbs well. Her grappling also continues to improve, and she can hold her own against strong grapplers.
Pinheiro has a lot of potential as a powerful striker with quality grappling. She hails from a judo background and has good jiu-jitsu. She will back her striking as she will not be threatened by Hill’s power.
That said, if she does not call upon her grappling, Hill has the technique to pepper her on the feet for three rounds. We can see Pinheiro overwhelming Hill early and assuming control time with her wrestling.
However, we are backing Hill’s experience to weather the early storm and keep the fight on the feet for long enough to convince the judges. We have seen Hill succeed in this before but still lose close decisions so Pinheiro as the underdog is worth a punt.
