KELVIN GASTELUM VS DANIEL RODRIGUEZ LOWDOWN
Kelvin Gastelum (17-9(1)) continues his quest in the division where he belongs. Sean Brady (2023) welcomed him back to welterweight which proved to be a terrible match-up. He was out powered, out grappled and eventually submitted with a kimura. That came off the back off a vintage performance and ‘Fight of the Night’ with Chris Curtis (2023) earning a unanimous decision and now sits on a 12-9(1) UFC record.
Daniel Rodriguez (17-4) is also coming off a dominant loss. It was his sole appearance last year where he took on Ian Machado Garry and was outclassed on the feet and knocked out in the first round. That made it two finishes on the bounce after Neil Magny (2022) submitted him snapping an impressive four-fight streak knocking his UFC record to down to 7-3.
KELVIN GASTELUM VS DANIEL RODRIGUEZ PREDICTION
This is one of many great matchups on the Saudi Arabia card. They are both stocky, tough and talented fighters with phenomenal hands. Gastelum is also a great wrestler but like Rodriguez relies on his boxing and we expect this to be duked out on the feet.
The former middleweight will boast the speed advantage and sets up his shots well with feints and will look to fire that lightening 1-2 down the pipe. Rodriguez is also a dangerous southpaw and with no range or grappling to worry about, he will be very confident.
Gastelum has the speed, experience and wrestling for a comfortable night. However, he rarely puts it all together and Rodriguez’s durability will keep him in the fight until the bell.
There is little between them, so it is surprising to see Gastelum as the heavy favourite. We back him to edge a decision, but Rodriguez is the value pick.
