JP Buys (9-5) was living the dream when he submitted Jacob Silva (2020) on the Contender Series to earn a UFC contract. However, life went from bad to worse for the South African. He got TKO’d on debut by Bruno Silva (2021) and then outpointed by Montel Jackson (2021). External factors did not help matters and he eventually met Cody Durden (2022) and got TKO’d in the first round to leave his UFC career hanging by a thread.
Now, he meets Marcus McGhee (7-1) who is on a tear. He steamrolled all of his opponents before getting submitted by Rafael do Nascimento (2022) for the Legacy Fighting Alliance. However, it has been business as usual since collecting two knockouts before making his UFC debut on short notice against Journey Newson (2023) and submitting him in the second round.
JP BUYS VS MARCUS MCGHEE PREDICTION
Buys just cannot catch a break. He is on a three-fight skid and has now been handed a someone who is not well known but is a beast. McGhee packs some serious power and will be a knockout threat until the bell. He is also a severe threat on the ground with slick jiu-jitsu.
Buys is better than his form suggests and his wrestling can give McGhee problems. However, his chin is the worry here and McGhee only needs to land one clean shot to spark the beginning of the end.
Prediction: McGhee via KO/TKO
