JOHN CASTANEDA VS DANIEL MARCOS LOWDOWN
John Castaneda (21-6) fought twice last year and although he was not his usual finishing self, he went 2-0 to gain some important momentum. He went into the year off the back of a brutal knockout loss to Daniel Santos (2022) but responded with unanimous decisions over Muin Gafurov and Kyung Ho Kang to go 4-2 in the UFC.
Daniel Marcos (15-0(1)) made his first two UFC appearances last year. He was awarded with a debut against Saimon Oliveira after outpointing Brandon Lewis on the Contender Series. It could not have gone better folding him with a knee leading to a second-round knockout. He then squeaked a split decision win over Davey Grant and had his fight with Aori Qileng (2024) stop short due to accidentally kicking the ball bag forcing a ‘no contest’.

This should be an exciting scrap as they are both aggressive strikers with high outputs. Marcos is the more dangerous striker whereas Castaneda is a better grappler so it will be interesting to see how he approaches this.
Castaneda will have the confidence of trading on the feet, but he will be playing with fire. Expect a lot of combinations from Marcos threatening the knockout blow. If Castaneda can time his level changes, he can change the course of the fight with his takedowns.
Marcos has good takedown defence, and we can see it being enough to convince the judges with his damage dished out on the feet. However, we expect Castaneda’s takedowns to edge a close decision.
