Jessica Andrade’s (24-11) return to strawweight back in May could not have gone worse. She was coming off getting dominated and submitted by Erin Blanchfield (2023) three months prior. She dropped down to take on Xiaonan Yan and got knocked out in the first round leaving her at a crossroads.
It only gets tougher for her as now she fills in for Virna Jandiroba to fight Tatiana Suarez (9-0). After outpointing Nina Nunes (2019), she spent nearly four years out the game returning in February this year. It was like she never left as she ragdolled Montana De La Rosa submitting her in the second round.

Returning so soon after a knockout to cut down to 115 lbs is a worry. However, the bigger worry is fighting one of the best wrestlers we have seen in women’s MMA. Suarez throws around 125 pounders, so if her weight cut goes smoothly, she will be a different beast.
What Andrade lacks in technique, she makes up for in power and there is no doubting how hard she is filling in as a replacement to take on another killer. She also has a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, but Suarez has the grappling to nullify all of those skills.
Seeing Andrade as such a hefty underdog is always tempting especially if Suarez tests her ego on the feet where she is very hittable. However, we expect her to shoot in straight away, throw Andrade to the deck and dominate.
