GRANT DAWSON VS JOE SOLECKI LOWDOWN
Grant Dawson (20-2-1) has a lot of questions hovering over his head after suffering his first loss since 2016. He went unbeaten in his first nine UFC fights and earnt a shot at Bobby Green (2023) after earning a unanimous decision over Damir Ismagulov (2023). He headlined his first UFC card, and it could not have gone worse getting knocked out in just 33 seconds.
Joe Solecki (13-4) is also coming off a devastating knockout loss. He went into the bout off the back of two wins – a majority decision over Alex da Silva Coelho (2022) and a submission over Carl Deaton (2023) picking up a ‘Performance of the Night’ in the process. He then met Drakkar Klose (2023) back in December but got brutally slammed on his dome in the first round.
GRANT DAWSON VS JOE SOLECKI PREDICTION
We have a grappler vs grappler match-up which could be an exciting tussle or a mediocre stand-up battle. They are both quality wrestlers with excellent jiu-jitsu.
Dawson holds the edge when it comes to jiu-jitsu whereas Solecki is the better striker. We expect them both to start by testing themselves on the feet, but considering Solecki has better hands and Dawson got knocked out early in his last fight, we expect Dawson to shoot in first.
This should be a very competitive scrap and we are backing Dawson’s pace and wrestling to control the majority of the fight with Solecki’s jiu-jitsu dragging it to the bell. However, it is surprising to see him as such a big underdog considering how easily Green turned the lights off.
Prediction: Dawson via Decision
Value Bet: Solecki to win
