GERALD MEERSCHAERT VS BYRAN BARBERENA LOWDOWN
Gerald Meerschaert (35-17) takes a break from prospects after losing both his fights last year. He was coming off a huge win and his 27th submission over Bruno Silva (2022). However, he was then fed to Joe Pyfer at UFC 287 and got knocked out in the first round. He then met Andre Petroski four months later at UFC 292 and just fell short in a split decision.
Bryan Barberena (18-11) hit his best form back in 2022 capping off a three-fight win streak with a TKO over the legend Robbie Lawler. However, that led him into the path of another former champion in Rafael dos Anjos (2022) who submitted him. Gunnar Nelson (2023) made it two submission losses in a row and Makhmud Muradov earnt a unanimous decision to complete a three-fight skid.

Two journeymen collide is a clash of styles. Barberena is a tough brawler whereas Meerschaert is a slick grappler.
They are both notoriously hard to predict as they are so inconsistent, but if this stays on the feet, Barberena will win, but he ends up on the ground, he will get caught in Meerschaert’s web.
Barberena’s volume will give Meerschaert serious problems and we can see him finding a late TKO if he can defend the takedowns. However, Barberena has been submitted three times and we expect Meerschaert to create an opportunity to get this to the deck and pounce on a submission.
