EDGAR CHAIREZ VS DANIEL LACERDA LOWDOWN

Edgar Chairez’s (10-5) debut did not go to plan losing a unanimous decision. In fairness, it was a very tough introduction to the big leagues getting paired up with the unbeaten prospect Tatsuro Taira back in July. He was coming off the fifth and sixth submissions of his career which were over Roberton Guerro (2022 – UWC Mexico) and Gianni Di Chiara Vazquez (2023 – Fury FC) and now has a great opportunity on Mexican Independence Day to regain that finishing form.

It is surprising to see Daniel Lacerda (11-5) lose all four of his UFC bouts, but it has been less surprising to see him leave everything inside the cage. He was 10-1 entering the UFC with his only loss being a result of a shoulder injury in 2019. Since his debut, he has bought the same attitude of ‘kill or be killed’ but unfortunately perished at the hands of Jeff Molina (2021 – TKO), Francisco Figueiredo (2022 – submission), Victor Altamirano (2022 – TKO) and CJ Vergara (2023 – TKO).

EDGAR CHAIREZ VS DANIEL LACERDA PREDICTION

The only reason Lacerda is still in the UFC is because he is an absolute wild man and is guaranteed to bring the fireworks.

Fireworks is exactly what we expect as Chairez is also very aggressive and always hunts the finish. He is very well-rounded with confidence in his hands and jiu-jitsu. The same can be said for Lacerda who is more explosive but more reckless.

Considering their form and how good Chairez looked against Taira, the Mexican is the heavy favourite. For the simple reason of how dangerous a striker Lacerda is and Chairez’s suspect defence, the Brazilian is the obvious play.

Chairez is a durable finisher and we know Lacerda will be willing to go out on his shield, but we have a feeling he will pull off the upset.

Prediction: Lacerda via KO/TKO

Value bet: Lacerda via KO/TKO or Submission
