DOO HO CHOI VS BILL ALGEO LOWDOWN
When Doo Ho Choi (14-4-1) beat Thiago Tavares in 2016, he was sitting on a 12-fight win streak and just knocked out all three of his UFC opponents in the first round. Everyone was onboard the hype train, however it has not moved since. Mandatory military service and injuries have limited him to only four bouts since and he is yet to taste that winning feeling again. He lost three on the bounce to Cub Swanson (2016) which was the ‘Fight of the Year’, Jeremy Stephens (2018) and Charles Jourdain (2019) which were both ‘Fight of the Night’ displays. He returned three years later to Fight Kyle Nelson (2023) and fought to a draw.
Bill Algeo (18-8) is also coming off a fight with Nelson (2024) although it did not end as well. He was coming off his own ‘Fight of the Night’ performance where he submitted TJ Brown (2023) and went on to earn a unanimous decision over Alexander Hernandez (2023). He went on to meet Nelson at UFC on ESPN 54 and suffered the first knockout of his career dropping his UFC record down to 5-5.
DOO HO CHOI VS BILL ALGEO PREDICTION
It is a testament to Choi that fans still get excited to watch him fight when he has not won in eight years. Despite his innocent appearance, he is a predator with heavy hands and this is a great match-up as Algeo also prefers to strike.
Algeo is more illusive and will bounce around with his karate style whereas Choi will plot forward into the pocket and uncork bombs. Although Choi looked great against Nelson and Algeo got knocked out, Algeo has been more active and is easier to predict.
Prime Choi runs through Algeo, but that was eight years ago, and we have to back the more active fighter in a back-and-forth battle. That said, we would not be surprised to see an early vintage knockout from ‘The Korean Superboy’.
Prediction: Algeo via Decision
Value Bet: Choi via KO/TKO
