DAVID ONAMA VS GABRIEL SANTOS LOWDOWN
David Onama (10-2) arrived to the UFC as a featherweight prospect but after four tough UFC fights, he has experienced defeat for the first time. He stepped up to lightweight on short notice for his debut losing a unanimous decision to Mason Jones (2021). He then went on to show his true colours by knocking out Gabriel Benitez (2022) and submitting Garrett Armfield (2022) but then ran into a train in Nate Landwehr (2022) who won a majority decision in a back-and-forth war.
Gabriel Santos (10-1) also suffered the first loss of his career as a short notice replacement on his UFC debut. He filled in for Nathaniel Wood in London to fight Lerone Murphy. He gave a great account of himself but lost a split decision which ended his streak including three knockouts and four submissions.
DAVID ONAMA VS GABRIEL SANTOS PREDICTION
Surprisingly, Santos is the heavy favourite. He is a brilliant striker with slick jiu-jitsu and will be a threat wherever the fight goes. He is very aggressive and we expect him to start quickly, walk Onama down with strikes and try and get him to the deck to rain down ground-and-pound while looking for a submission.
However, trading with Onama will be extremely dangerous. He is very accurate and boasts knockout power, so the longer this stays on the feet, the more chance he has. He is an explosive athlete, so Santos will need to get his hands on him and slow him down.
Onama completely ran out of steam in his fight with Landwehr and we can see Santos wearing him down in the clinch and taking Onama down. We are leaning towards the Brazilian, but all the value is on Onama, especially if Santos decides to stand and trade.
