CUB SWANSON VS ANDRE FILI LOWDOWN
Cub Swanson (29-13) is still soldiering on 42 fights into his career at 40 years old. He is inevitably struggling to build streaks, but he is still fighting top talent. He is 3-2 in his last five with four of them ending via knockout. He smoked Daniel Pineda (2020) to then get folded by Giga Chikadze’s (2021) ‘Giga’ kick. He then pulled off a vintage knockout cleaning Darren Elkins’ (2021) clock with a spinning wheel kick. He then got crippled by Jonathan Martinez’s (2022) leg kicks but is coming off a close unanimous decision win over Hakeem Dawodu (2023).
Andre Fili (22-11-(1)) is six years younger but is a veteran himself with a UFC record of 11-10(1). He is finding wins harder to come by and is 2-3 in his last five. He got knocked out by Joanderson Brito (2022) and responded with a split decision win over Bill Algeo (2022) before losing another close unanimous decision to Nathaniel Wood (2023). He bounced back again with an impressive TKO over Lucas Almeida (2023) but is coming off a devastating knockout loss to Dan Ige (2024).
CUB SWANSON VS ANDRE FILI PREDICTION
This is a fantastic matchup between two well-rounded veterans. They are both strikers by trade who have become solid grapplers. Fili’s wrestling in particular has evolved and Swanson has always had slick jiu-jitsu.
That said, we expect the majority of this to play out on the feet. Fili boasts a four-inch reach and three-inch height advantage. Although Swanson is slowing down, he still has terrific movement and the technique to cover the distance with dangerous kicks.
If Swanson cannot conduct the tempo, we can see Fili chewing up his legs and shooting in for the takedown to bag the rounds. Swanson has the power to change to course of the fight and we expect this to be fiercely competitive until the bell.
For that reason, the underdog is the smart pick, but we are backing Fili to land more volume and sway the judges with the od takedown.
