CHASE HOOPER VS STEVE GARCIA LOWDOWN
Chase Hooper (11-2-1) is coming off a brilliant win and his first ‘Performance of the Night’. It came with great relief after going 2-2 in his first four UFC fights which drained his hype. The jiu-jitsu ace TKO’d Daniel Teymur (2019) and submitted Peter Barrett (2020) but he got completely stifled losing unanimous decisions to Alex Caceres (2020) and Steven Peterson (2021). However, he bounced back with another finish and TKO over Felipe Colares back in May.
Steve Garcia (12-5) is 1-2 in the UFC with his only win coming over Charlie Ontiveros (2021) who has lost all three of his UFC fights via knockout, so it is fair to say Garcia needs a special performance to gain some relevancy. He lost a unanimous decision to Luis Pena (2020) on debut and is coming a first-round decapitation courtesy of Hayisaer Maheshate back at UFC 275.
CHASE HOOPER VS STEVE GARCIA PREDICTION
At first glance, it looks like Garcia is being fed to Hooper to regain some stock. However, Garcia has solid takedown defence and as we have seen, if Hooper cannot get the fight to the ground, he looks like a fish out of water.
If Garcia can maintain his 100% takedown defence, we would back him all day. However, we feel Hooper will eventually get him down. He is improving quickly and we expect a few new looks on the feet especially training with Stephen Thompson.
We expect Hooper to surprise Garcia with his striking which will open up opportunities for the takedown. Once, the fight goes to the floor, Hooper will rain down the ground-and-pound ready to pounce on a submission. Considering the odds, Garcia holds the value, but we are backing Hooper.
