BRENDAN ALLEN VS CHRIS CURTIS LOWDOWN

Brendan Allen (23-5) misses the chance to catapult further up the middleweight rankings after Marvin Vettori pulled out. Instead, he gets to seek revenge on the last man that beat him. He suffered the knockout back in 2021 and has gone on to string six wins together. Five of those were submissions and his last three were last year against Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belts in the form of Andre Muniz, Bruno Silva and Paul Craig.

Chris Curtis’ (31-10(1)) knockout over Allen was part of an eight-fight win streak which was halted by Jack Hermansson (2022) in his fourth UFC appearance. He went on to earn a clinical knockout over Joaquin Buckley (2022) before losing a unanimous decision to Kelvin Gastelum (2023). He is now coming off a split decision over Marc-Andre Barriault (2024) after that ‘no contest’ with Nassourdine Imavov (2023) at UFC 289.

BRENDAN ALLEN VS CHRIS CURTIS PREDICTION

When they first met, Curtis was underrated and overlooked. He took the fight on short notice and Allen did not respect the finesse and power of his hands.

Allen is the better mixed martial artist and has improved drastically whereas Curtis has not, making him the favourite. Allen’s striking is getting better, and he really fancies himself on the feet.

We can see him having the ego to get one back on Curtis by trying to out strike him. However, he has been submitting black belts for fun and knows he can carve through Curtis like butter if he wants to.

We can see him feeling Curtis out on the feet and leveraging his striking to create a scramble and pounce on his back. That will be a risk as his only weakness is his defence and Curtis will find a way to pierce it.

Curtis’ takedown defence will keep him in the fight, and this will come down to how Allen approaches it. The longer he stands, the more chance Curtis has, but surely he has learnt his lesson and will find a way to flatten Curtis out and submit him.

Prediction: Allen via Submission
