BRANDON ROYVAL VS ASKAR ASKAROV LOWDOWN
Brandon Royval (14-6) has only had tough fights in the UFC. He started his account by getting paired with Tim Elliott (2020) and Kai Kara-France (2020) submitting them both. He then got TKO’d by Brandon Moreno (2020) and submitted by Alexandre Pantoja (2021). However, he has bounced back in true Royval fashion by edging out Rogerio Bontorin (2022) in a split decision and earning another vintage submission over Matt Schnell five months ago to earn his third ‘Fight on the Night’.
Askar Askarov (14-1-1) is coming off his first MMA loss. He made his UFC debut against Moreno (2019) fighting to a draw and then began to march towards a title shot after outpointing Elliott (2020), Pantoja (2020) and Joseph Benavidez (2021). However, Kara-France (2022) got in his way displaying incredible takedown defence to earn a classy unanimous decision of his own.

This is a very interesting match-up between the methodical wrestler and the wild man who flourishes in chaos.
Royval has poor takedown defence, but part of that is because he enjoys fighting off his back. So, this will be a case of when not if, Askarov lands the takedown. For as long as it lasts on the feet, the more success Royval will have, throwing an array of punches and kicks. His left kick to the body from his southpaw stance will be particularly dangerous but throwing kicks and spinning techniques will make him more susceptible to the takedown.
This will all come down to the scrambles and whether Royval can catch Askarov with one of his bony limbs or jump on a choke. He will get taken down eventually and we feel Askarov will assume enough control time to convince the judges. Royval is worth a punt considering how the odds and how wild he can make a fight.
