BRAD KATONA VS CODY GIBSON LOWDOWN

Brad Katona has progressed nicely in The Ultimate Fighter having being part of Team Chandler until he switched to Team McGregor in the semi-finals. He defeated Carlos Vera by decision in the quarters and then Timur Valiev in the semis enroute to this finale. He brings a 12-2 record into this fight and after his previous spell in the UFC, he will be looking to establish himself back in the organisation with a win here.

Cody Gibson (19-8) also had a previous period of time in the UFC but lost three of his four bouts against opponents who have gone on to impressive careers – Aljamain Sterling being one of them. Gibson earned stoppages in the quarters against Mando Gutierrez and in the semis against Rico DiScullo, and he will be confident of stopping Katona here too.

BRAD KATONA VS CODY GIBSON PREDICTION

Brad Katona and Cody Gibson meet in the tournament final of The Ultimate Fighter 31 and two former team-mates will know each other’s skillset well.

Katona is well rounded but his only real route to victory here looks to be via the judges’ scorecards. 10 of his 14 bouts have gone to a decision and he will look to quell Gibson’s threats and outwork him over the 15 minutes.

Gibson certainly has more routes to victory but he has tasted defeat far more times than Katona has. This will be another tough test for him, but one he will surely rise to.

There is very little separating the two fighters and this could very well come down to the scorecards. That would then favour Katona’s workrate to just about give him the edge albeit in a fight that could easily go either way.

Prediction: Katona via Decision
