ANTONINA SHEVCHENKO VS CORTNEY CASEY LOWDOWN

This fight is back on after Antonina Shevchenko (9-4) injured her knee prior to UFC Vegas 53 in April and she could really do with a win. She went into 2021 off the back of her best career win knocking out Ariane Lipski (2020) earning a ‘Performance of the Night’ in the process. However, last year was miserable for her getting finished twice – submitted by Andrea Lee and then TKO’d by Casey O’Neill.

Cortney Casey (10-9) is no stranger to a loss on the UFC, but she did bump her UFC record up to 6-8 in her last fight. She earnt a unanimous decision over Liana Jojua (2021) which came after two losses on the bounce. She got submitted by Gillian Robertson (2020) and was edged out in a split decision by JJ Aldrich (2021).

ANTONINA SHEVCHENKO VS CORTNEY CASEY PREDICTION

Glancing at the stats, we can expect a striking battle here. Neither of them shoot for takedowns which will suit Shevchenko as besides Chookagian, she has only lost to strong wrestlers. So, she will be grateful Casey, will oblige in a stand-up battle.

That said, Shevchenko’s grappling has improved tremendously and we would not be surprised to see a clinch or takedown attempt. The majority of this will play out on the feet and that is where we expect to see Shevchenko’s technique to shine.

They do not have knockout power so volume and any takedowns is what is going to convince the judges. With these two, it is bound to be close and we can easily see a split decision. We are backing Shevchenko with Casey representing the value as the underdog.
