AMANDA LEMOS VS VIRNA JANDIROBA LOWDOWN
Amanda Lemos (14-3-1) headlines her third UFC card. Her first headliner was against Jessica Andrade (2022) and it was the most disappointing performance we have seen from her. She tapped to a standing arm-triangle in the first round but responded with two vintage finishes. She submitted Michelle Waterson (2022) and TKO’d Marina Rodriguez (2022). That led to a title shot against Weili Zhang (2023) but came up short in a unanimous decision. Now, she hopes to work her way to another title shot after outpointing Mackenzie Dern back in February at UFC 298.
Virna Jandiroba (20-3) heads to the Apex to headline her first UFC card. She has not been as active as we would like and the last time she fought more than once in a year was back in 2021. Back then, she finished Kanako Murato and lost a unanimous decision to Amanda Ribas. Although she has only fought three times since, battling injuries, she has picked up three impressive unanimous decisions over Angela Hill (2022), Rodriguez (2023) and Loopy Godinez (2024).
AMANDA LEMOS VS VIRNA JANDIROBA PREDICTION
An impressive finish here will catapult either fighter into title contention. They are both extremely talented with Lemos possessing rare finishing ability on the feet and on the ground whereas Jandiroba is tough as old boots with some of the best jiu-jitsu in the division.
Jandiroba’s toughness has allowed her to walk fellow strawweights down with little regard for their power. She walks into range throwing looping shots before shooting in for the takedown. We expect her to do the same, but she cannot walk onto Lemos’ hands.
Lemos is one of the most powerful strawweights and Jandiroba will not be able to eat many clean shots. So, expect Jandiroba to try and chain takedowns together. Considering how Zhang ragdolled Lemos, it is not surprising to see Jandiroba as the favourite.
Lemos’ five-round experience will be critical here. If she cannot put Jandiroba away early, she will have to weather constant takedown attempts and pressure for five rounds.
This is going to be a very gritty battle and will come down who has the best cardio. We can see Jandiroba taking Lemos down early, but it will be interesting to see if she will still hold that threat in the championship rounds, especially if she gets clipped.
We can see Jandiroba looking good early and smothering Lemos. However, the longer the fight goes on, the sloppier Jandiroba will get leaving her open to absorbing a lot of damage. We are backing Lemos’ power to defend the late takedown attempts and land more damage to earn a knockout or decision causing the upset.
Prediction: Lemos via Decision
Value Bet: Lemos to win
