ADRIAN YANEZ VS VINICIUS SALVADOR LOWDOWN
Not many people predicted that Adrian Yanez (16-5) would get TKO’d twice in a row after reeling off his fourth ‘Performance of the Night’ when he knocked out Tony Kelley (2022). That was his fifth UFC win which led him into the path of veteran Rob Font (2023) at UFC 287 who snapped his nine-fight win streak. He got humbled and finished in the first round and then Jonathan Martinez (2023) piled on the misery by violently disabling his leg.
Now, he receives a much kinder match-up in the form of Vinicius Salvador (14-6). He made his debut last year off the back of knocking out Shannon Ross (2022) on the Contender Series. He lost to Victor Altamirano and then met CJ Vergara who made it 0-2 for the year with another unanimous decision loss.
ADRIAN YANEZ VS VINICIUS SALVADOR PREDICTION
Salvador steps up to flyweight where he should be more explosive and durable. He will also match up very similarly physically so will not be giving up any size. However, he will be giving up a lot of talent.
Yanez’s striking is on a different level. He is one of the slickest boxers in the division with superb technique, movement and speed. What swings this firmly in his favour is the fact the Salvador will have the confidence to trade on the feet.
He will throw flashy strikes with his hands low which could not be more tailor-made for Yanez. Salvador will be better off grappling, but Yanez has good takedown defence. If Yanez remains patient early, all the openings he needs will present themselves.
Prediction: Yanez via KO/TKO
