JONATHAN PEARCE VS JOANDERSON BRITO LOWDOWN
Jonathan Pearce (22-5) is going in under the radar in the featherweight division. He is still better known for getting knocked out by Joe Lauzon (2019) on his UFC debut. However, he stepped back down to 145 lbs and has strung five impressive wins together. He knocked out Kai Kamaka (2020) and submitted Omar Morales (2021) before outpointing Christian Rodriguez (2022). He then knocked out Makwan Amirkhani (2022) and is coming off a unanimous decision over Darren Elkins (2022).
Joanderson Brito (14-4) is also building some momentum after a disappointing debut. He earnt the call-up after outpointing Diego Lopes (2021) on the Contender Series which continues to age well. He then got outpointed by Bill Algeo (2022) but has looked lethal in collecting the scalps of Andre Fili (2022 – knockout), Lucas Alexander (2022 - submission) and Westin Wilson (2023 - knockout)
JONATHAN PEARCE VS JOANDERSON BRITO PREDICTION
This is great match-up between two featherweights surging up the division. Pearce is an excellent grappler and he will do everything he can to get Brito on his back and rain down the ground-and-pound.
However, Brito is also an exceptional grappler. He is explosive, dynamic and will hunt the finish however he can. He relies more on brute force than technique and the same can be said on the feet.
Expect Brito to throw wild bombs which will suit Pearce as he will happily be patient and time his level-changes to take Brito down. The Brazilian’s confidence in his ground skills could let him down here giving up position too easily.
We understand why Pearce is the favourite and we can see him pinning Brito down and grinding out a decision. However, Lauzon rocked Pearce and Brito has the power to cause more damage.
The value is with Brito and we have a feeling he will pull off the upset.
