JOSÉ ALDO: UFC LEGEND TARGETING TITLE RUN ONE AGAIN

UFC legend Jose Aldo (32-8) is targeting another title run at the ripe old age of 38-years-old and he comes into this bout having won four of his last five fights. While a title run may seem improbable as there is a clear drop off from when he was at his peak, Aldo is still showing that he can compete at a high level and this bout will certainly test that. After losing to recently-crowned champion Merab Dvalishvili in August 2022, Aldo had almost two years away from the Octagon as he retired from MMA and took a couple of boxing matches. He did however return in May at UFC 301 where he picked up a unanimous decision win over Jonathan Martinez, and now he has a relatively quick turnaround to face Bautista.

MARIO BAUTISTA: SIX-FIGHT WIN STREAK FOR SURGING BAUTISTA

Mario Bautista (14-2) is hoping to make a statement with a win against a UFC legend here and extend his current win streak to seven. During this six-fight streak, he has won four by submission and the last two have come via the scorecards. The win over Da’Mon Blackshear was somewhat controversial as many disagreed with the judges’ decision but Bautista has built some good momentum over the last two years. The Nevada native is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and he will know a victory here will catapult him up the rankings in the bantamweight division.

JOSÉ ALDO VS MARIO BAUTISTA PREDICTION

This fight is one of the most evenly-matched bouts on the card at UFC 307 as Jose Aldo meets Mario Bautista. The outcome of this match very much depends on what Jose Aldo has left in the tank. He appears to have lost a little of his punching power but all the fundamentals are strong.

Bautista is strong when it comes to submissions but he will have his work cut out trying to submit Aldo who has not lost via submission since 2005. They may very well stalemate when it comes to the ground game.

Aldo’s last five bouts have gone the distance and it would be no surprise if this one follows suit. With Bautista not possessing huge knockout power and submissions unlikely to be a factor here, this one is surely going to the scorecards. We have a marginal preference for Aldo who appears to be as hungry as ever and we like his experience in this one. But our pick from a betting perspective is on this one going the distance.

PREDICTION: FIGHT TO GO THE DISTANCE
