JONATHAN PEARCE: 32-YEAR-OLD DESPERATE TO SNAP TWO-FIGHT SKID
Tennessee native Jonathan Pearce (14-6) was riding a five-fight win streak heading into 2023 but he has lost his two fights since then and is looking to get back to winning ways here. As the level of opponent improved due to his winning streak, he came unstuck against Joanderson Brito and then David Onama. This fight with Sabatini is an opportunity for him to reset and get back on track here.
PAT SABATINI: VET RETURNS AFTER TWO KO LOSSES IN LAST THREE FIGHTS
Pat Sabatini (18-5) returns to action after almost a year out after he suffered a knockout loss to the dangerous Diego Lopes at UFC 295. He was due to fight in March after a fight was scheduled but he pulled out of that and now it will be interesting to see how he looks after suffering another knockout loss. While he has not fought in the Octagon, he has taken part in a couple of grappling competitions during that time so he has been active.
JONATHAN PEARCE VS PAT SABATINI PREDICTION
This featherweight clash sees two fighters who desperately need a win meet each other. Pearce has good knockout power and he will look to get back to winning ways against Sabatini who has been knocked out in two of his last three fights.
Sabatini could very well go uber cautious on his return and look to try grind out a decision win. He probably has the edge in grappling and if he can get Pearce to the ground, he has a good skillset that may open up submission opportunities.
11 of Sabatini’s wins have come via submission and that looks to be his best route to victory. For Pearce, nine of his 14 wins have come by knockout so that is likely his best approach.
A lot will depend on how both fighters respond to their recent adversity. We just favour Sabatini’s chances to grind this out on points and dominate the Octagon control even if it may not be that entertaining to watch.
PREDICTION: PAT SABATINI TO WIN BY DECISION
