IRENE ALDANA: MEXICAN STAR LOOKING TO GET TITLE SHOT WITH WIN HERE

After losing a decision to champ Amanda Nunes in her bantamweight title shot at UFC 289, Irene Aldana (15-7) bounced back with a unanimous decision win over Karol Rosa last time out last December.

Aldana has been fighting at a high level for some time now and her only defeats since 2018 have come against the very best – Raquel Pennington, Holly Holm and Nunes. Aside from that, she has remained a feature in the top five of the rankings as she has always beaten the best of the rest. And that is exactly what she will have to do here as she faces Norma Dumont.

NORMA DUMONT: BIG OPPORTUNITY FOR BRAZILIAN TO GET IN TITLE PICTURE WITH WIN

33-year-old Brazilian Norma Dumont (11-2) has been making waves in the UFC women’s bantamweight division with four wins in succession and she will be desperate for that momentum to continue here.

Her only defeat in the UFC since November 2020 was a split decision loss at the hands of Macy Chiasson and she has reeled off four decision wins since then against strong opponents. This is another step up for her and one that she will relish as an opportunity to put her into title shot contention.

IRENE ALDANA VS NORMA DUMONT PREDICTION

This is a really well-matched fight and is one of the closest analysing it on paper. Irene Aldana has always been arguably the best of the rest in the bantamweight division and Norma Dumont is working her own way up the rankings with the aim of pushing into that elite and title shot contention.

Neither fighter possesses much in the way of punching power although Aldana would certainly have the edge in that department, and they have relied on the technical ability so often along with their heart and stamina. There is every chance this one goes to the judges’ scorecards like 10 of Dumont’s 13 fights have.

In such an evenly-matched bout, we are just edging Dumont ever so slightly. She is the younger fighter, been involved in less wars, and that may just edge her a tight fight. The safe play is betting that the fight will go the distance, but for value, go Dumont to win the decision.

PREDICTION: NORMA DUMONT TO WIN BY DECISION
