EDGAR CHAIREZ: DESPERATE FOR MEXICAN INDEPENDENCE DAY WIN
Edgar Chairez will be aiming to celebrate Mexican Independence Day with a victory in The Sphere at the historic UFC 306 event. He brings a record of 11-5 (with one no contest) into this fight and he comes off a submission win over Daniel da Siva at UFC Fight Night 237. This is fourth fight in the UFC and after a loss, no contest and win, Chairez knows a win here will catapult him into bigger fights.
JOSHUA VAN: LATE CALL HANDS THE ACTIVE VAN A GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY
Credit to Joshua Van (10-2) for answering the call and stepping in for the absent Kevin Borjas and this really could turn out to be a golden opportunity for the 22-year-old. After eight consecutive victories, Van lost his last bout against Charles Johnson at UFC on ESPN 59 by knockout just two months ago. Much will depend on how he bounces back from that loss and while he got caught but a lovely uppercut by Johnson and was rocked, it was not a bad knockout that we so often see.
EDGAR CHAIREZ VS JOSHUA VAN PREDICTION
This will be one of the more entertaining bouts on the undercard as both Chairez and Van are great to watch. Chairez will be pumped up on Mexican Independence Day and will likely have the support of the crowd. That said, Van will be desperate to bounce back from only the second loss of his professional MMA career.
Chairez’s wins have all come via stoppage - four KO/TKOs and seven submissions – and if it goes the distance, that could well favour Van. That said, only two of Van’s 12 fights have gone the distance as he has picked up six knockouts himself.
We just about favour Chairez with a full camp and support on his side but not with any real conviction. We do expect a knockout however so expect this fight not to go the distance.
PREDICTION: FIGHT WILL NOT GO THE DISTANCE
