CLAYTON CARPENTER: 28-YEAR-OLD LOOKING TO EXTEND 100% RECORD
Clayton Carpenter got a win on his UFC debut as he produced a really slick submission to stop Juancamilo Ronderos but that was almost 18 months ago. That was his seventh successive win in his professional MMA career and he will now look to pick up where he left off. He was due to meet Steve Erceg earlier this year but injury put paid to that, but now he returns and puts his 7-0 record on the line.
LUCAS ROCHA: 17-1 FENOMENO MAKES UFC DEBUT
Brazilian 24-year-old Lucas Rocha gets his chance in the big time after he made it through Dana White’s Contender Series last October. He has built up an impressive 17-1 record in Brazil and now he will test himself among some of the best in the Octagon. 10 of his 17 wins have come via knockout but he has a good set of submission skills to complement that.
CLAYTON CARPENTER VS LUCAS ROCHA PREDICTION
This is a fascinating matchup in the flyweight division to kick off this card and Clayton Carpenter and Lucas Rocha have plenty of potential to do good things in the organisation. Both are coming off lengthy spells out of action so much will depend on their preparations and what condition each come into the Octagon.
Carpenter looks like a really good technician and he impressed on his UFC debut. He has looked good with his striking but just as dangerous on the ground.
Rocha has shown good power in his standup and as you would imagine with most Brazilians, has really solid foundations with his jiu-jitsu.
The Brazilian is the younger fighter but he is more experienced with 18 fights to Carpenter’s seven. For that reason, we slightly favour Rocha to just have the edge there. It really is a fight however that could go either way but our preference is with Rocha which is where the value lies.
