CHIDI NJOKUANI: BANG BANG LOOKING TO MAKE IT BACK-TO-BACK WINS
35-year-old Chidi Njokuani (23-10 with one no contest) is coming off a really important win last time out as he snapped a three-fight losing run. He bounced back with a split decision win over Rhys McKee in UFC on ESPN: Blanchfield vs Fiorot in March and that ended a tough run of three losses which included two TKOs. Prior to that, he had great momentum behind him having won four in a row including two Performance of the Night displays.
JARED GOODEN: NITE TRAIN COMING OFF PERFORMANCE OF THE NIGHT DISPLAY
Jared Gooden (23-9) claimed his Performance of the Night last time out as he submitted Wellington Turman in style at UFC on ESPN: Dariush vs Tsarukyan in December. That was his fifth win in last seven fights and after losing on his UFC debut in March 2023, he bounced back with that win. Gooden has 18 stoppages in his 23 wins with 11 knockouts and seven submissions and he is rarely involved in a boring fight.
CHIDI NJOKUANI VS JARED GOODEN PREDICTION
This fight has all the hallmarks of a candidate for Fight of the Night and while it is hugely unpredictable, fireworks are all but guaranteed given the styles of the two fighters. Njokuani has only seen two of his last eight fights go the distance while only one of Gooden’s last six have gone to the scorecards.
We marginally prefer Njokuani to get the win here but with no real confidence. He has been fighting at a higher level for longer than Gooden although we have a slight worry about what Njokuani has left in the tank.
That makes this fight so unpredictable and our preference here is on the fight duration. We do not see this going the distance and with both fighters looking for the stoppage right from the offset and possessing multiple ways to win fights, back this one not to go to the scorecards.
PREDICTION: FIGHT TO NOT GO THE DISTANCE
