Miomir Kecmanovic vs Yoshihito Nishioka Prediction

Miomir Kecmanovic is the seventh seed at Delray Beach this week and the Serb came through his opening match by overcoming Borna Gojo 6-4 6-4 on Monday.

He will be hoping to enjoy a strong week after being eliminated in his first match last week in Dallas albeit to eventual winner Denis Shapovalov. He played some good stuff at the Australian Open prior to that so he will be hoping to kick on this week.

He meets Yoshihito Nishioka in the round of 16 and the Japanese number one will be no pushover.

Nishioka won his first-round match against Aleksandar Vukic 6-3 6-4 and he comes into it after a reasonable week in Dallas where he made it to the quarters. He was losing 7-5 3-2 to Casper Ruud before retiring with a shoulder problem on Friday so it is a little surprising to see him playing this week with such a quick turnaround.

That injury just lingers in the background and makes it difficult to have too much faith in Nishioka here.

The pair are familiar foes having met five times before and Kecmanovic leads the head-to-head 3-2. They played twice last year and shared a win apiece and interestingly in two of Kecmanovic’s three wins against Nishioka, the Japanese star has retired.

Our preference here is with Kecmanovic especially given Nishioka’s injury concerns. Kecmanovic is playing well in his own right and can progress to the quarters.
