Michael van Gerwen looked in scintillating form in his opener last week, defeating Stephen Bunting with an average of 109.16, but he was unable to replicate that in the semi-finals as he was swatted aside by eventual night winner Luke Littler.

MVG contested just one of the Players Championship events in his native Netherlands this week, losing in the first round of the same event that Night 3 opponent Chris Dobey won.

Dobey was sensational in that Pro Tour event on Monday, posting averages of 113 and 107 on his way to the title, and he is bound to be feeling confident about his game heading into this contest.

The world number eight was a finalist on Night 1 in Belfast and has already shown that he belongs on the big stage with the world’s best players. If both players play to their ability, we could be in for a cracking contest that potentially goes the distance.
