Michael van Gerwen vs Callan Rydz Prediction
Michael van Gerwen was solid without being particularly spectacular in his first two matches – wins over James Hurrell and Brendan Dolan – but he found another gear in his fourth-round victory over the battling Jeffrey de Graaf.
‘Mighty Mike’ stormed into an early two-set lead but had to fend off his opponent’s comeback and he eventually prevailed 4-2. His 101.98 average and 46.4% checkout percentage, though, will give him the belief that he can challenge for a fourth world title.
Despite being unseeded, Calland Rydz still boasts the two highest averages in the tournament and yet again produced some excellent darts in his fourth-round victory over Robert Owen.
He was pushed all the way by the qualifier though, and recovered well from a sloppy start that saw him lose the first two sets. As a result of his victory, Rydz has reached the last eight at Ally Pally for the second time in his career, having previously done so in 2022 when he lost 5-4 to eventual champion Peter Wright.
No one wants to run into Rydz right now with the 26-year-old having comfortably produced some of the best darts in the tournament so far. MVG has been here and done it before though, and there were some positive signs in his win over De Graaf. Whichever way this goes, it is unlikely to be a walkover so backing over 7.5 sets makes sense.
Michael van Gerwen vs Callan Rydz Tip: Over 7.5 sets
