After a whole host of seeds were eliminated from Michael van Gerwen’s quarter of the draw, the third seed has a clear run to the semis but he has to overcome Brendan Dolan in the third round

Michael van Gerwen vs Brendan Dolan Prediction

Michael van Gerwen returns to action after comfortably easing past James Hurrell before Christmas in the second round. Averaging a shade under 95, MvG won 3-0 and avoided becoming yet another seed to be knocked out.

With the likes of Gary Anderson, Martin Schindler, Gabriel Clemens and Ross Smith all knocked out, there are very few seeds left in MvG’s quarter of the draw so the Dutchman will be confident he can make a real run at the semis at the minimum this year.

He meets Brendan Dolan who is seeded at number 30 and he beat Lok Yin Lee in the second round 3-0. Dolan played well registering an average of 92.02 and he will be confident he can really test MvG here.

Dolan can also take heart from the fact that he has beaten MvG several times before including in that last major meeting at the World Matchplay in 2023.

That could well play into MvG’s psyche coming into this one and it would no surprise if Dolan pushed him all the way or even upset him. The fact so many seeds have gone out and the draw is wide open for MvG may even add pressure on him.

We do think he will just about get through and we cannot find enough reason to go for Dolan but expect this match to go deep.
